SWM nursery Kanagawa Pref.

This was a project for a nursery situated in the presence of Tottori prefecture’s abundant nature, such as Yumi-ga-hama beach and Õyama Mountain. The nursery decided to renew its furniture, fixtures, and various other items to match the interior of its new building. So, we made it our priority to design a space that could remind people of the magnificent nature of the local region. For the interior, we used plenty of local wood and stone material. We also incorporated traditional crafts belonging to this region, such as kasuri textile and eramic-making. We installed lampshades made of kasuri weaved into patterns that graphically represent each room’s name, bringing together modern, refined design and traditional crafts. We also filled the place with anaturalatmosphere byusingsolidwoodandleathermadefromskins of various animals for the furniture. Children step on the rocks with the back of their feet, rub their cheeks against the wood, and enjoy the texture of the leather in their palms. Through their time spent in the nursery, they learn the comfort of real, natural materials and the beauty of the products of nature that surrounds their local community.
